Sai Van Lake Park in Macao SAR has become a hive of early-morning energy. This year, enthusiasm for China’s 15th National Games has spilled beyond stadiums, inspiring people of all ages to hit outdoor workout spots.
At a popular fitness corner, Sports Scene’s Shen Xiang spoke with TDM News reporter Ivy Lei about how public exercise has evolved across the city. Lei noted visible shifts, from sleek new equipment to organized group programs that bring a social dimension to staying fit.
She points to three key drivers fueling the boom:
- Government promotion: citywide campaigns and incentives making fitness a community priority
- Improved infrastructure: upgraded parks, outdoor gyms and all-weather surfaces
- Local initiatives: neighborhood classes and pop-up events that turn exercise into a social activity
Looking ahead, Lei says deeper engagement will depend on targeted outreach and more diversified programming for different age groups, ensuring everyone from seniors to students can join in.
One regular summed it up: "I believe it’s due to government encouragement and the well-maintained facilities. Macao residents generally have a leisurely lifestyle and place great importance on health."
As Macao SAR rides this wave of public fitness, its parks are on track to become vibrant hubs where health and community converge.
