Hurdle Drama & Young Stars Shine at Chinese Mainland’s 15th National Games

Guangzhou’s track and field venue delivered high drama yesterday as the Chinese mainland’s 15th National Games crowned nine new champions across sprint and hurdle events.

Men’s 110m Hurdles: A Photo Finish

Jiangsu’s Liu Junxian exploded out of the blocks to set the pace in the men’s 110m hurdles final, but Shanghai’s Xu Zhuoyi closed fast down the home straight to claim gold by just 0.02 seconds. Xu posted a personal best of 13.12 seconds, while Liu also recorded a lifetime best of 13.14 for silver. Hubei’s Zhu Shenglong took bronze.

Women’s 100m Hurdles: Upset Victory

In a surprise outcome, Guangdong’s Liu Jingyang dashed to a personal best of 12.81 seconds to win the women’s 100m hurdles, outpacing season-best performances from Sichuan’s Wu Yanni (12.85s) and defending champion Lin Yuwei of Fujian, who captured bronze.

Sprint Showcases: Men’s and Women’s 200m

Guangdong’s Shi Junhao sprinted to gold in the men’s 200m, clocking 20.30 seconds ahead of teammate Lin Jianhao and Chongqing’s Guan Xin. On the women’s side, Zhejiang’s 16-year-old phenom Chen Yujie continued her breakout week, winning in 23.02 seconds and adding a second gold to her under-20 Asian record in the 100m.

With personal bests, tight finishes and rising stars, the Chinese mainland’s sprint events are showcasing the next generation of track talent ahead of international meets this winter.
