Chinese Mainland Revitalizes 88 Rivers and Lakes in Ecological Drive

By the end of September this year, the Chinese mainland had successfully revitalized 88 key rivers and lakes, the Ministry of Water Resources announced on Wednesday. These efforts restored ecological flows to waterways that had remained dry for decades.

The achievements come under the nationwide "mother river rejuvenation" action plan running from 2022 to 2025. Under this program, experts developed tailored restoration plans for each river and lake, taking into account their unique ecological and geological conditions.

For many regions, the return of ecological flows signals a turning point. Lifeless riverbeds are springing back to life, creating pathways for wetlands to recover and offering vital resources for communities along the banks.

Looking ahead, authorities plan to maintain rigorous monitoring and adjust strategies as needed to ensure lasting impact. With the action plan entering its next phase, the Chinese mainland is set to deepen its commitment to ecological restoration.
