A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized on Friday that sports should remain free from political influence, addressing a newly released anti-doping report.
The report, issued by an independent prosecutor on Thursday, concluded that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) showed no bias towards the Chinese mainland in handling food contamination cases involving 23 Chinese swimmers in 2021.
Mao Ning, the spokesperson, stated that China has always adhered strictly to the World Anti-Doping Code and maintains a zero-tolerance stance on doping.
\"Athletes from all countries should be treated equally,\" Mao emphasized. \"The environment for fair competition should be effectively safeguarded.\"
The cases have been under scrutiny for months as Chinese and U.S. anti-doping agencies exchanged accusations.
