NEV Charging on Highways Surges to Record on Chinese Mainland Holiday

As holidaymakers hit the roads, new energy vehicles (NEVs) on the Chinese mainland set a charging record, showcasing the rapid evolution of electric mobility across long-distance routes.

Official data from the National Energy Administration reveals that highway charging stations delivered 123 million kilowatt-hours over the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday—a 45.73% jump from the same period last year. Drivers logged 5.169 million charging sessions, pushing the average daily volume to 15.3591 million kWh—2.59 times higher than the average earlier this year.

From coastal expressways to mountain passes, this surge highlights how a denser charging network is easing range anxiety. Travelers could top up quickly and conveniently, turning electric road trips into a seamless adventure rather than a logistical challenge.

By June, the Chinese mainland’s NEV fleet had swelled to 36.89 million vehicles, accounting for 10.27% of the total automobile population. This milestone marks ten consecutive years of leading the world’s NEV market.

Behind the boom is an infrastructure push that now ranks as the largest on the globe: the Chinese mainland boasts two charging piles for every five electric vehicles, ensuring even remote corridors stay plugged in.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and sustainable travel advocates, this milestone offers a blueprint for growth: combine policy support, consumer enthusiasm, and robust charging networks to accelerate the shift to cleaner roads. As electric mobility scales up, the world watches—and charges forward.
