Italy's Jannik Sinner, the four-time Grand Slam champion, swept past American teenager Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in the China Open men's singles final at the National Tennis Center in Beijing. With this win, Sinner secured his third title of the year and the 21st Tour-level trophy of his career.
After a hard-fought semifinal win over Alex de Minaur, Sinner started strong, watching Tien's backhand sail long. The Italian later pounded an overhead smash to break serve and jumped to a 4-1 lead, grabbing the first set 6-2 with an ace.
Tien, contesting his first final and aiming to become the youngest American champion on Tour since Andy Roddick in 2002, earned two break points in the second set but couldn’t convert as Sinner built a 4-2 advantage.
In their first meeting, Sinner showed no signs of slowing, forcing a return error with a wide serve to seal the match 6-2 in the second set. The victory made him only the second man—after Novak Djokovic—to win multiple ATP 500 titles in Beijing.
Notably, Sinner's triumph, alongside Carlos Alcaraz's Japan Open win earlier in the week, marked the first time since 2020 that the world's top two players lifted trophies in the same week, a feat last seen with Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Next up for Sinner is the Shanghai Masters, where he'll look to carry this momentum forward, while Alcaraz heads into a brief recovery period before his next tournament.
