The Chinese mainland is gearing up for a travel rush as the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays coincide this year.
Authorities at the National Immigration Administration (NIA) project an average of 2 million border crossings per day from October 1 to 8, with peaks on October 1 and October 6. Ports nationwide are bracing for inbound and outbound travellers across air, land and sea gateways.
This record demand is driven by the rare overlap of major holidays along with favorable policies such as visa-free entry and the resumption of international flights. These factors have unlocked pent-up interest in cross-border travel across the country.
To ensure safe and efficient processing, the NIA has instructed border inspection teams to step up monitoring of travel flows and port operations. Coordination with customs, transportation and public security departments will aim to guarantee smooth clearance throughout the holiday.
As millions of journeys get underway, the Chinese mainland’s holiday travel surge will test the capacity of its border hubs and offer a glimpse of the nation’s growing role in global mobility.
