At the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2025 in Guiyang, Liu Liehong, head of the National Data Administration, revealed that the Chinese mainland’s total intelligent computing capacity has surged to 780,000 PFlops—securing the world’s second spot.
This milestone is driven by the strategic “East Data, West Computing” initiative, which aims to balance data resources and computing power across regions. By the end of July, 25 urban business nodes had been established nationwide to bring data processing closer to end users.
Eight national computing hubs now account for over 60% of new computing capacity, with intelligent computing alone reaching 620,000 PFlops. These hubs promise to be the backbone for next-generation AI services and large-scale analytics.
Guizhou Province, the pioneering ground for the initiative, recently unveiled the world’s first 400G all-optical network computing channel—setting a new benchmark for high-speed data transfer and low-latency computing.
The three-day expo, running through August 30, has attracted more than 16,000 guests and 375 enterprises. From startups showcasing AI innovations to policymakers debating data governance, the event underscores how big data infrastructure fuels sustainable growth, entrepreneurship, and immersive digital experiences for travelers and remote workers alike.
As intelligent computing power continues its rapid ascent, entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts worldwide are eyeing new opportunities in cloud services, machine learning, and smart city solutions—highlighting the pivotal role of data in shaping tomorrow’s digital economy.
