UN@80: Ceramicist Megan White’s Call for Blue Oceans

To mark the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, ceramicist Megan White unveils her "Blue Oceans" series, a striking blend of art and advocacy. Kenyan-British by heritage and coastal by upbringing, White channels her lifelong passion for the sea into powerful statements on marine conservation.

Growing up on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, White spent hours exploring tidal pools and the creatures within them. Today, her ceramic creations—featuring detailed renditions of crustaceans, lobsters and oysters—invite viewers to see new beauty in often-overlooked marine life. "My goal is to shift perspectives on what we value," says White, "and to remind audiences that protecting our oceans protects our future."

At the United Nations headquarters, visitors can wander through a ceramic reef installation where porcelain coral and sculpted sea creatures glow under soft lighting. This immersive exhibit bridges art and science, illustrating the delicate balance of ocean ecosystems and the urgent need for global cooperation.

White's work resonates across global audiences: business and tech enthusiasts exploring sustainable innovation; thought leaders and changemakers seeking new advocacy platforms; travelers and digital nomads craving immersive stories; and sports and entertainment fans drawn to creative narratives.

As the United Nations looks ahead to its next 80 years, White's Blue Oceans plea is clear: our seas are a shared heritage deserving of respect, protection and love. Through her art, storytelling and community engagement, she hopes to spark a wave of change that secures healthy oceans for generations to come.
