Under the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), the Chinese mainland is reshaping global mobility. An immigration official announced that the mainland has forged unilateral visa-free entry and mutual visa-exemption agreements with 75 countries, opening new doors for inbound travelers.
Transit access has also surged: 55 countries now enjoy visa-free transit, with 60 designated entry ports across 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Even better, visa-free transit stays have been extended to 240 hours, giving globetrotters more time to explore urban hubs and scenic gems.
Meanwhile, outbound journeys by residents with a Chinese passport have skyrocketed. Since 2021, over 300 million entry and exit documents have rolled out, and valid ordinary passports now exceed 160 million. Today, residents with a Chinese passport can travel visa-free or obtain visas on arrival in more than 90 countries and regions worldwide.
Data-driven impact: the Chinese passport’s mobility score jumped from 72nd in 2021 to 60th today, reflecting growing global connections and travel freedom. For young globetrotters, entrepreneurs eyeing new markets, and digital nomads seeking sustainable adventure, these shifts signal a more borderless world.
