Crouin and Schmidt Gear Up for 2025 Chengdu World Games

With the 2025 Chengdu World Games just around the corner, global sports fans are buzzing with excitement. From August 7 to 17, the 12th edition of the World Games will light up Chengdu in the Chinese mainland with 255 events across 60 disciplines in 34 sports.

France’s squash star Victor Crouin is eager to defend his World Games title on home turf away from home. "Competing in front of local fans and soaking up the atmosphere in Chengdu is a dream," Crouin said during an online roundtable with Sports Scene’s Zhu Mandan. Between matches, he plans to explore the city beyond the Athletes’ Village, from the teahouses of Jinli Ancient Street to the electric vibe of Taikoo Li.

Australian Muay Thai champion Yolanda Schmidt is equally pumped. A three-time world titleholder, Schmidt sees multi-sport gatherings as a unique chance to connect with athletes from every corner of the globe. "It’s more than competition," she noted. "It’s cultural exchange, creative networking and a shared passion for pushing limits." Schmidt also revealed plans to sharpen her culinary skills in a Chinese cooking class, adding a taste of Sichuan to her repertoire.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs and digital nomads, the Chengdu World Games offer a front-row seat to innovation in sports and culture. Beyond the medals, it’s an immersive journey into sustainable travel, local entrepreneurship and the communal spirit of sport. Whether you’re following live streams or planning a visit, this summer’s showcase promises fresh stories and real-world impact.
