On Wednesday at Wimbledon, world No. 1 and two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz kept his title defence on track, dispatching British amateur Oliver Tarvet 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 to secure a spot in the third round.
The Spaniard needed two hours and 17 minutes to subdue the 20-year-old Tarvet, who is ranked world No. 733 and competing in only his second ATP Tour match. "I have to give big praise to Oliver. I just loved his game," Alcaraz said.
Meanwhile, Paolini's campaign came to an abrupt halt, crashing out in straight sets and sending shockwaves through the tournament as a seeded contender bowed out early.
With Paolini gone, the draw has opened up even further, and Alcaraz will look to harness his momentum as he chases a historic third consecutive Wimbledon crown.
