Chinese Mainland Strengthens Wetland Conservation
During an international seminar in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, officials revealed that the Chinese mainland has established 903 national wetland parks over the past 20 years. These protected areas now cover 2.4 million hectares of wetlands—offering vital habitat for key national wildlife species.
Yan Zhen, vice head of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA), stressed that wetland conservation has been a top priority. "We have made continuous efforts to protect and restore these ecosystems," Yan said, underscoring the Chinese mainland's commitment to balancing growth with environmental stewardship.
Beyond biodiversity protection, these parks are opening new paths for sustainable exploration and community-based research, inviting travelers, entrepreneurs, and activists to engage directly with nature.
Looking ahead, the NFGA plans to build on these achievements by collaborating with local communities and experts in wetland management. For young global citizens and changemakers, this network of parks offers a powerful example of how collective action can safeguard our planet's future.
