The Chinese mainland's women's volleyball team is set to face the USA in their opening match of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Monday evening. Competing in Pool A alongside Serbia and host nation France, the team is aware of the stiff competition ahead.
This Olympic cycle features 12 teams divided into three pools, each playing three matches during the group stage—a reduction from the five matches held during the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Games. This change heightens the importance of every match in determining which teams advance to the knockout phase.
\"If we want to win at the Olympics, each of us will have to play at the top level, individually and together,\" said China captain Yuan Xinyue. \"When everybody delivers their best performance and comes together as a team against our opponents, that is how we're going to win.\"
China previously clinched the gold medal in women's volleyball at the 2016 Rio Olympics by defeating Serbia. In Tokyo, the USA secured the top spot by overcoming Brazil, setting the stage for a competitive showdown in Paris.
