French President Emmanuel Macron hosted International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and Paris 2024 head Tony Estanguet at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Tuesday. The meeting comes as France prepares to open the Olympic Games on July 26.
The discussions focused on mobilizing efforts to uphold the Olympic truce and leveraging sports to advance sustainable development goals. A significant topic was the potential final attribution of the 2030 Olympic Winter Games to the French Alps, showcasing France's commitment to hosting world-class sporting events.
In addition to the high-level talks, Bach visited France's National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance (INSEP) training center. INSEP is renowned as a premier Olympic and Paralympic training facility, with half of France's Olympic medals won by athletes who have trained there.
During his visit, Bach observed training sessions and interacted with the athletes. He praised the readiness of the facilities and the efforts of the Organizing Committee, led by Tony Estanguet. Bach stated, \"Everything is ready. The Organizing Committee is doing a great job under the leadership of my dear friend Tony Estanguet. So everything is prepared. What we could see there today, the French team, which is also very important for the success of games under the leadership of David Lappartient, is in good shape.\"
