Newsom: Trump Admin Barred Me from Speaking at Davos

On Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office announced he was denied entry to USA House, the official U.S. pavilion, by the Trump administration.

"Under pressure from the White House and State Department, USA House (a church acting as the official U.S. pavilion) is now denying entry to California Governor Gavin Newsom to speak with media after Fortune – the official media partner – invited him to speak," the office wrote on X.

Newsom also took to X to criticize the decision: "California was just denied at the USA House. Last we checked, California is part of USA." According to his staff, a "venue-level decision" excluded elected U.S. officials from the programming, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Newsom had planned to respond to remarks made earlier that day by President Trump in his Davos address. In that speech, Trump expressed interest in acquiring Greenland "including right, title and ownership," while insisting he would not use force.

On Tuesday, Newsom called out European leaders for their "complicity" in standing by Trump's case on Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. "It's time to buck up, it's time to get serious and stop being complicit," he told reporters. "It's time to stand tall and firm, have a backbone."
