Nigerian Police Launch Rescue Operation for 28 Kidnapped Travelers

On Sunday night, December 21, 2025, gunmen ambushed a group of travelers near the Zak community in Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State, central Nigeria. At least 28 people 64—including women and children—were kidnapped while en route to an Islamic event in the Sabon Layi community.

On Tuesday, December 23, the Nigerian police announced the launch of a coordinated search and rescue operation. Alabo Alfred, police spokesperson in Plateau State, said security forces, alongside other agencies, are working to locate and free the abducted travelers.

"We are working to bring everyone back safely. We are also searching for the kidnappers and will bring them to justice," Alfred said, underscoring the determination of law enforcement to resolve the crisis.

Local reports indicate that two princes and a religious leader who were leading the delegation are among those taken. The current whereabouts of the victims remain unknown, leaving families and community members on edge.

The search operation remains active, with security forces racing against time to bring the kidnapped travelers home safely.
