Cuba Condemns US Terror Label on Venezuela

On December 20, 2025, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodrguez Parrilla publicly rejected the U.S. government’s move to designate Venezuela’s government as a "foreign terrorist organization." Posting on X, Rodrguez called the decision "arbitrary, fraudulent, unilateral and politically motivated," arguing it undermines international efforts to combat terrorism.

Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the designation, a rare step that marks an escalation in U.S. policy toward Latin America’s longest-governing administration. Rodrguez warned that Washington’s strategy aims to isolate Venezuela, increase pressure and risk unpredictable consequences for peace, security and stability across Latin America and the Caribbean.

"This infamous barbarism," he added, "will only deepen regional tensions." Cuba’s foreign minister also affirmed Havana’s full solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela, pledging support amid what he described as an act of aggression.

Analysts say the move could trigger new waves of sanctions, complicate diplomatic channels and add strain to a region already coping with migration flows and economic hardship. As digital citizens around the globe debate the geopolitical fallout, the designation spotlights how counterterrorism tools are being repurposed as instruments of political pressure.
