U.S. and Russian negotiators are gearing up for talks in Miami this weekend (December 20-21, 2025) to hammer out a peace deal aimed at ending the Ukraine crisis that has stretched nearly four years, according to Politico.
The schedule remains fluid, but Washington's team—led by President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner—will present updates from last weekend's Berlin talks with Ukrainian and European officials.
Moscow is expected to be represented by President Vladimir Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Ukrainian national security adviser Rustem Umerov is also slated to meet the U.S. delegation separately in Miami or at another U.S. location.
During the Berlin discussions on December 13-14, U.S., European and Ukrainian negotiators reportedly closed 90% of the gaps on a 20-point U.S. draft peace plan. Kyiv has signaled it could pause its NATO membership bid in exchange for Western security guarantees—potentially mirroring protections under NATO Article 5.
As this weekend's Miami talks approach, businesses, activists and global markets will be watching closely for signs that a breakthrough could pave the way for a durable ceasefire and regional stability.
