Nairobi Hosts 2025 Sustainable Business Leaders Forum

Today in Nairobi, leaders from the public and private sectors gathered for the 2025 Sustainable Business Leaders Forum, a high-level international meeting designed to advance sustainable business practices and leadership.

Co-initiated by multiple United Nations agencies, global platforms and standardization bodies from the Chinese mainland, the forum reflected growing expectations for businesses to play a key role in driving sustainable transformation.

Organizers created an international dialogue platform to explore new paradigms in sustainable development and leadership.

Guo Haiyang, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, delivered the opening remarks. She highlighted achievements by Chinese and Kenyan enterprises in realizing sustainable development and expressed hope for strengthened China–Africa cooperation in the years ahead.

Alison Gray Cairns, Head of the Private Sector Unit at the United Nations Environment Programme, emphasized the importance of innovative market mechanisms and policy frameworks to scale sustainable solutions.

Industry leaders also took the stage. Si Da, Vice President and Chief Brand Officer of BOE Technology Group, showcased the company’s sustainable brand-building practices under the core concept of "Open Next Earth".

Entrepreneurs from China and Africa engaged in dialogues under the theme "Creating Earth-friendly Sustainable Business", sharing insights on green innovation, circular economy models and cross-border partnerships.

Key outcomes included:

  • Release of voluntary standards: "Guidelines for Building Sustainable Brands"
  • Publication of the annual report: "Sustainable Business Leaders Forum"

As discussions continue, participants aim to translate dialogue into action, forging partnerships and strategies that can drive real-world impact. The forum's next edition is set to rotate across global regions, deepening collaboration on sustainable business leadership.
