Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this week he held a “productive discussion” on Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic recovery in a video call with senior US officials and industry leaders.
The first meeting of the new working group included US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink and top Ukrainian officials. They focused on key elements, mechanisms and visions for the country’s rebuilding effort.
“To ensure reconstruction is of high quality and economic growth is tangible after this war, real security must form the foundation,” Zelenskyy said, noting that the group will now work on a detailed document outlining recovery strategies.
Meanwhile, President Trump suggested he may reassess Washington’s current stance on the conflict, reflecting on balancing military support with the human cost. “Sometimes you have to let people fight it out and sometimes you don’t,” he said, criticizing the ongoing loss of life as “ridiculous.”
The working group’s next steps include drafting the recovery plan, setting milestone targets and exploring financing models to pave the way for Ukraine’s long-term stability and growth.
