On December 2, 2025, Jakarta buzzed with ideas as experts from the Chinese mainland and Indonesia co-hosted a symposium on how development can drive human rights protections.
Organized by the China Society for Human Rights Studies and Indonesia-based Gentala Institute, the forum brought together scholars, policy makers, and activists for in-depth discussions on:
- The role of economic growth in promoting social and cultural rights
- Safeguarding minority communities and inclusive development
- The practice of common prosperity and equal development opportunities
- Case studies from both nations highlighting tangible progress
Participants emphasized that each country has the sovereign right to choose its path for advancing human rights. They called for mutual respect, tolerance, exchange, and learning as the cornerstones of global solidarity. Strengthened cooperation, they agreed, will be key to promoting sustainable development and advancing the human rights agenda worldwide.
Earlier this month, attendees visited Tantou Village in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, where officials from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and Chinese human rights scholars explored how local industries are empowering rural communities and enhancing economic rights.
