Chinese Mainland Automakers Lead the Charge at São Paulo Auto Show

Brazil's largest auto show is back after seven years, and this year the spotlight belongs to Chinese mainland automakers. The São Paulo International Car Show opened on November 28 and runs through December 1, showcasing a new era of electric and hybrid vehicles from brands like BYD, Geely and Chery.

Over half of the exhibit floor is now occupied by Chinese mainland brands, up from just 15 percent in 2018. Exhibitors unveiled more than 20 electric models, with price tags starting 10% below competing legacy brands. BYD alone reported over 30,000 pre-orders during the first two days of the show.

Industry analysts in São Paulo note that competitive pricing, advanced battery technology and local assembly partnerships have fueled this rise. "Consumers here are ready for high-tech EVs that match their budgets," says Maria Silva, an automotive market expert.

Brazil's push for sustainability and urban mobility is accelerating EV adoption. Government incentives and expanding charging infrastructure have helped EV sales jump 40% this year. Local ride-sharing companies are also testing Chinese mainland electric SUVs in São Paulo's busy streets.

This shift in Latin America's largest vehicle market reflects a broader trend: the Chinese mainland's drive to export innovation worldwide. For young global citizens and tech enthusiasts, the show offers interactive demos, immersive AR test drives and insights into the future of mobility.

As the 2025 São Paulo International Car Show wraps up today, one thing is clear: Chinese mainland automakers are steering the industry toward a more electric, connected and affordable future.
