Magnitude 5.7 Quake Strikes Kyushu, No Tsunami Warning

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 6:01 p.m. local time, Kyushu region in Japan was rocked by a magnitude-5.7 earthquake, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The China Earthquake Networks Center reported a slightly lower magnitude of 5.3, with the epicenter located 20 kilometers beneath the surface.

Ubuyama village in Kumamoto prefecture felt the strongest shaking, registering an upper 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale of 7. Nearby Aso city in Kumamoto prefecture and Taketa city in Oita prefecture experienced a lower 5 intensity, enough to sway hanging objects and rattle buildings.

Despite the strong tremors, authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued. Local emergency services have been on alert as they assess any damage and ensure public safety.
