Exchange of Fire in Nablus: Palestinian Man Killed in Israeli Operation

Yesterday evening, Monday, November 24, 2025, tensions flared in the northern West Bank city of Nablus when Israeli forces and a Palestinian man exchanged fire during a raid, Palestinian sources said.

Palestinian security sources identified the man as Abdel-Raouf Shatyeh, who had been sought by Israel for over a year and a half for alleged involvement in a vehicular attack that killed two soldiers. Witnesses reported that Israeli troops surrounded a house on Amman Street in eastern Nablus, unleashing heavy gunfire before flames erupted from an apartment hit by shoulder-fired projectiles.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) attempted to reach the scene after reports of an injured person but was blocked by Israeli forces. The PRCS later confirmed that locals informed them the man had been killed during the operation.

Sources added that the raid was accompanied by a wave of arrests targeting several men across various neighborhoods in the city, reflecting a broader uptick in security operations.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described the mission as a "counterterrorism operation", noting an ongoing exchange of fire with a "terrorist" in eastern Nablus. Israel often uses this term for West Bank raids aimed at individuals linked to Palestinian armed groups.

For residents of Nablus, Monday’s events underscore a familiar and fraught reality: military incursions can unfold rapidly, leaving neighborhoods on edge and deepening long-standing tensions in the region.
