China Voices Dismay at Dutch Minister’s Nexperia Remarks

China's Ministry of Commerce expressed strong dissatisfaction on November 14, 2025, with remarks by Dutch Economy Minister Vincent Karremans regarding the Nexperia issue, labeling his comments as misleading.

In late September and early October, the Dutch government issued an administrative order on September 30 and a court ruling on October 8 that placed 99% of Nexperia’s shares under trusteeship under the Cold War-era Goods Availability Act. The ministry stated that these steps disrupted what had been a stable global semiconductor supply chain.

The ministry noted that while China has granted exemptions for compliant civilian-use exports to ease short-term supply pressures, the semiconductor ecosystem remains fragile. Nexperia Netherlands has halted wafer deliveries to its Chinese plants and sent legal notices to block Chinese foundries, leaving many automakers facing ongoing component risks.

China has accepted a request from the Netherlands’ Ministry of Economic Affairs to send officials to Beijing for consultations on the Nexperia case. The ministry urged the Dutch side to present constructive, solution-oriented proposals rather than repeat past rhetoric or introduce new obstacles.

With global demand for semiconductors still high and geopolitical tensions rising, the upcoming Beijing talks, scheduled later this month, will be a crucial test of both sides’ ability to restore stability to a supply chain vital to industries worldwide.
