Philippines Typhoons Claim 259 Lives, Millions Displaced

As of November 12, 2025, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports that the death toll from two recent powerful typhoons in the Philippines has climbed to 259. Millions of residents have been displaced across the archipelago, with thousands taking refuge in emergency shelters.

The twin storms battered the country this week, leaving a trail of destruction through coastal towns and inland provinces. One of the systems, Typhoon Fung-wong, made landfall on Sunday as a super typhoon before rapidly weakening as it crossed north-central Luzon. Fung-wong alone claimed at least 27 lives, and two people remain missing.

Authorities mobilized search-and-rescue teams, dispatched relief supplies, and set up temporary evacuation centers to support affected families. Flooded roads and damaged bridges, however, have slowed down aid efforts in several remote areas.

Local officials are calling on volunteers, NGOs, and international partners to step up relief operations. Communities are working together to clear debris, restore power, and provide basic services to those forced from their homes.

As clean-up continues, the Philippines faces the daunting task of rebuilding homes and critical infrastructure. The NDRRMC has vowed to provide regular updates on relief efforts and safety advisories to help residents and their families navigate the recovery process.
