A Record-Breaking Stalemate
Today, November 11, 2025, marks the 42nd day of a shutdown that has already eclipsed the previous record of 35 days set by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump during the 2018-2019 closure.
Americans Weigh In
A YouGov survey released last Friday shows rising frustration across the country:
- 32 percent of respondents blame Democrats for the shutdown
- 35 percent hold Republicans responsible
- 28 percent assign equal blame to both parties
Compared with a similar poll from mid-October, the share blaming mostly Republicans dropped by 4 percentage points, while equal-blame respondents rose by 4 points. About one-third of Americans say the shutdown is affecting them a great deal or somewhat, up from 21 percent a month ago.
Looking Ahead
Signs point to a potential end later this week following a bipartisan compromise in the Senate on Sunday. If the House approves the measure, federal agencies could reopen and furloughed workers would return to their posts.
As the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, this standoff highlights how partisan divisions can have real-world impacts—disrupting services, paychecks, and public confidence.
