Under the U.S.-brokered ceasefire that began on October 10, Israel’s prime minister’s office announced the return of another hostage’s remains from Gaza. The body, found near Gaza City, was transferred by Hamas’ armed wing to the Red Cross for handover.
Hostage exchanges continue amid tension
Israel’s forensics authority is now working to confirm the identity. If verified, only six deceased hostages will remain in Gaza. The exchange process has pressed on almost daily, despite pockets of violence on both sides.
By the numbers
- 20 living hostages released
- Nearly 2,000 Palestinian convicts and detainees freed
- 28 deceased captives’ remains promised
- 6 bodies still pending identification
Violence and humanitarian impact
The Israeli military reported two Palestinians killed after allegedly approaching an Israeli-controlled area “in a threatening way.” Gaza health authorities also said Israeli fire killed a man collecting firewood in central Gaza; the military said it was unaware of that incident.
Since the ceasefire, civilian life has edged back: aid deliveries have increased, hundreds of thousands have returned to damaged neighborhoods, and troops have withdrawn behind a yellow demarcation line.
