Midnight Halloween Shooting in Minneapolis Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured

One person was killed and two others injured early Saturday in a Halloween-night shooting in Minneapolis’ bustling Dinkytown district, Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara confirmed. Around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of automatic gunfire in the commercial hub adjacent to the University of Minnesota campus.

At the scene, police say one person died instantly, while two victims—one of them a University of Minnesota student—were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Officers recovered three firearms, including one owned by the deceased male, as investigations continue into who carried the weapons and what sparked the violence.

Dinkytown, packed with revelers celebrating Halloween, quickly descended into "chaotic" scenes, according to Chief O’Hara. The shooting highlights the risks that can erupt when crowded nightlife districts collide with firearms.

As investigators review witness statements and surveillance footage, community leaders and campus organizations are calling for clarity and increased safety measures. For young global citizens who flock to vibrant urban scenes—from college towns to festival capitals—this incident serves as a stark reminder of how fast celebrations can turn dangerous.
