Iran’s FM, UN Chief Hold Talks on Gaza and Yemen Crises

In a Monday phone call, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres exchanged views on mounting crises in Gaza and Yemen. As conflicts escalate, both leaders underscored the urgency of international action to prevent further civilian suffering.

Araghchi urged the global community to enforce the terms of the ceasefire with Hamas, calling out 'continuation of Israel’s violations' and stressing the need to guarantee safe delivery of humanitarian aid to people in Gaza. He also condemned what he described as Israel’s aggression in Yemen, advocating for sustained Iran–UN cooperation to bolster stability and regional security.

Guterres welcomed the dialogue, highlighting the importance of ongoing diplomatic consultations to restore peace and prevent a spiral of violence across the region. 'We must work together to secure long-term stability,' he said.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces reported air strikes on southern Gaza after accusing Hamas of firing an anti-tank missile and gunfire at Israeli troops dismantling infrastructure in Rafah under the ceasefire agreement. The IDF warned that such actions 'constitute a blatant violation of the ceasefire,' pledging a firm response.

Palestinian sources described intensive Israeli air raids east of Rafah, where ambulances have struggled to reach patients amid continuing bombardment under Israeli control. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held emergency consultations with Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and top security officials, instructing them to act 'forcefully' against perceived threats in the Gaza Strip.

As global eyes remain fixed on the Middle East, the call for diplomatic engagement—and immediate humanitarian relief—has never been more pressing.
