Cuban Rally in Havana Defends Venezuela Against US Interference

On Friday afternoon, a sea of supporters poured into Havana's Vedado district for a rally in solidarity with Venezuela, denouncing what organizers described as mounting U.S. interference.

Under the watchful gaze of the equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel led the demonstration, joined by representatives of left-wing parties and delegates from around the world attending the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements.

Roberto Morales, secretary of organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, slammed U.S. "interventionist plans" against Venezuela and unveiled a petition of more than 4.3 million Cuban signatures pledging unwavering support for that nation.

With Venezuelan flags snapping in the breeze and banners decrying a U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean, the crowd sent a message: threats to Venezuela are threats to all of Latin America.

"These threats against Venezuela are also threats against all of Latin America," said Omar Olivares, a 57-year-old Havana resident who joined the demonstration at dawn, capturing the rally's defiant spirit.

From the frontlines of the crowd to social media, Diaz-Canel reaffirmed Cuba's stand, writing on platform X: "At a time when the empire and its reckless leader authorize CIA covert operations against Venezuela, we express our solidarity with that brotherly people and especially with President Nicolas Maduro."

Last week, Cuba's Foreign Ministry chipped in with its own statement, rejecting U.S. "pretexts" for potential military action and calling on the international community to unite against external meddling.
