Peng Liyuan Champions Digital Empowerment for Women at Beijing Exhibition

An exhibition in Beijing on the Chinese mainland, held as a side event of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, showcased how digital intelligence is reshaping opportunities for women and girls.

Leading the tour, Peng Liyuan, UNESCO special envoy for girls’ and women’s education and spouse of Chinese President Xi Jinping, emphasized that next-generation information technologies are fueling new dreams and careers. "Digital intelligence is opening broader development channels for women and girls," she said.

Joining Peng, UN Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous praised the strides in closing the digital gender gap. She called on the international community to unite in harnessing tech to advance equal rights and opportunities in the digital era.

Attendees explored interactive displays, including a smart cloud classroom linking remote learning hubs; a Spring Bud Project showcase where girls programmed robots to solve Rubik’s Cubes; and traditional culture brought to life through augmented reality experiences.

Spouses of foreign leaders and leaders of women’s organizations joined the event, underlining a shared commitment to making gender equality central to digital transformation worldwide.
