Huddled behind closed doors in Sharm El Sheikh, Israeli and Hamas delegations launched indirect talks on Monday to map out a framework for a hostage-prisoner swap, Egypt’s state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV reported.
Hosted by Egyptian and Qatari mediators along the Red Sea coast, the sessions aim to "prepare the ground" by focusing on and expanding "common ground points" and setting up a mechanism for the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
Earlier, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the discussions would cover "field conditions and details" for swapping "all Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners" under the U.S.-proposed 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan.
The outcome of these indirect talks could determine whether both sides can agree on the terms of the ceasefire plan and move forward with the exchange, offering a potential humanitarian relief amid rising tensions.
