Global Poll Finds US and Israel Isolated Over Palestinian State Recognition

A new global survey by CGTN highlights a seismic shift in international opinion. As of September 23, 152 out of 193 United Nations member states now recognise Palestine as a state, leaving the United States and Israel increasingly isolated on the world stage.

Diplomatic Isolation Grows

Among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the US stands alone in not recognising Palestine. This wave of recognition underscores a growing consensus that the two-state solution—an independent, fully sovereign State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital—is the only viable path to lasting peace in the Middle East.

Public Backing for Sovereignty and Peace

The CGTN survey shows:

  • 78.2% believe implementing the two-state solution is fundamental to resolving the Palestinian issue.
  • 81.8% agree that establishing a sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders has become a global consensus.

Humanitarian Crisis Drives Urgent Calls

Data from Gaza health authorities paint a grim picture: since October 7, 2023, more than 65,000 deaths and 166,000 injuries have been recorded amid ongoing military operations. Respondents overwhelmingly demand action:

  • 96.4% support creating humanitarian corridors in Gaza for safe and sustained aid delivery.
  • 96.7% insist all attacks on civilians and civilian facilities must cease immediately.
  • 95.8% oppose forced displacement of Palestinian civilians and call for the release of detainees and hostages.

US Role Under Scrutiny

Since the conflict escalated, the US has vetoed UN ceasefire resolutions and continued arms shipments to Israel. The poll finds:

  • 93.6% believe the US has condoned acts of genocide in Gaza.
  • 92.8% urge the US to halt military aid to Israel and pressure an end to the Gaza blockade.
  • 82.3% think the growing recognition of Palestinian statehood will further isolate the US and Israel internationally.

With 12,104 netizens voting across CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms, the poll underlines a powerful, data-driven call for diplomacy, humanitarian relief and a renewed push toward a two-state solution.
