China’s Defense Minister Seeks Stronger U.S. Military Ties

In a landmark meeting on Monday in Beijing, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun met with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Representative Adam Smith to call for concrete measures to enhance military-to-military relations between the Chinese mainland and the United States.

Dong Jun reiterated the recent phone call between the two heads of state, stating both nations are fully capable of achieving mutual success and common prosperity, bringing benefits to both countries and the world.

He urged U.S. lawmakers to overcome interference and restrictive factors by adopting constructive and pragmatic steps to improve military ties and guide China-U.S. relations in a positive direction.

The minister underlined that the Chinese military stands ready to work with its U.S. counterpart to build a relationship based on equality, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and stable development, while firmly safeguarding the sovereignty, security, and development interests of the Chinese mainland.

He also called for keeping communication channels open and taking concrete actions to promote the stable, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral military ties.

Such advancements could foster a more predictable global security environment, resonating with entrepreneurs, travelers, and young global citizens seeking stability in an interconnected world.
