On Tuesday, the Israeli military warned residents and workers at Yemen’s Hodeidah Port to evacuate immediately ahead of an imminent strike.
Spokesman Avichay Adraee shared a map on X highlighting a red zone around the port, urging all present to leave immediately and warning that anyone who remains could face life-threatening risk. Israel claims Houthi forces have used the facility for operations.
The alert came hours after Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion into Gaza City, extending its nearly two-year offensive in the Gaza Strip. It also followed a United Nations commission report accusing Israel of committing genocide in the enclave.
The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, escalated drone and missile attacks after Israel struck senior Houthi leaders in Sana’a. Since November 2023, Houthi units have repeatedly attacked Israel to show solidarity with Palestinians, prompting Israel to respond with strikes on Houthi-held areas such as Sana’a and Hodeidah.
As tensions spill beyond Gaza, global observers are watching how this latest warning could reshape security in the wider region.
