The Chinese mainland Unveils 73-Athlete Squad for Tokyo World Athletics Championships

In a show of strength and depth, the Chinese mainland has unveiled its 73-athlete squad for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, running from September 13 to 21. This balanced roster features 41 men and 32 women across 33 events, blending seasoned champions with record-breaking newcomers.

At the forefront are world champions Yang Jiayu and Gong Lijiao. The 36-year-old shot-put icon Gong arrives in Tokyo for her 10th worlds, aiming to add to her haul of two golds, two silvers and four bronzes. Meanwhile, Yang 6 the women's 20km race walk world record holder and Paris Olympic gold medalist 6 is poised to defend her form on the global stage.

Trailing close behind are 2022 women's discus world champion Feng Bin, men's triple jump silver medalist Zhu Yaming, and record-breaker Wu Ruiting, who shattered the men's Asian triple jump record last month. Together, they form a powerhouse that has set the bar high.

Tokyo will also spotlight fresh talent. Eighteen-year-old hammer sensation Zhang Jiale has twice broken the Under-20 women's world record this season. Race walker Ma Li makes her worlds debut, tackling both the 20km and the newly added 35km event.
