Russia Launches Widespread Strikes on Ukraine, Civilian Deaths Reported

In a dramatic overnight escalation, Russian forces launched long-range Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and combat drones across Ukraine, hitting military-industrial enterprises, airbases and residential areas.

The Ukrainian air force reported shooting down 563 of 598 drones and 26 of 31 missiles nationwide, limiting damage to 13 military sites and scattered debris in 26 locations.

Kyiv bore the brunt of the assault, with an attack on the capital leaving 10 dead and 38 injured across seven districts. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lamented on X: "Russia chooses ballistics instead of the negotiating table," and urged new sanctions.

Russia’s defense ministry insisted it does not intentionally target civilians, claiming it struck only military facilities.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin reported intercepting 102 Ukrainian drones targeting seven regions, as Kyiv ramps up strikes on Russian oil refineries and export infrastructure.

European nations swiftly condemned the strikes. The EU and UK summoned Russian envoys after damage to the EU mission and British Council offices in Kyiv. "I strongly condemn these brutal attacks," said EU Commissioner Marta Kos.

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas added on X: "No diplomatic mission should ever be a target," highlighting the importance of safeguarding civilian and diplomatic sites.
