Deadly Israeli Airstrikes Hit Yemen’s Sanaa, Six Killed and Dozens Wounded

On Sunday, Israeli warplanes unleashed a wave of air strikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, targeting government and military sites, Houthi-run al-Masirah television reported.

A Houthi health official posted on X that the attack claimed six lives and left 86 people wounded, underscoring the human cost of the latest escalation.

Residents said the raids hit the presidential palace, the Capital Secretariat, the state oil company building, fuel depots, and power stations across central, southern, and southwestern districts.

In a brief statement, Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, confirmed the strikes but offered no further details. Army Radio later reported that the raids had ended after striking power stations, the presidential compound, and an oil warehouse.

The strikes came two days after the Houthi movement in northern Yemen fired a hypersonic ballistic missile at Tel Aviv, damaging homes with shrapnel but causing no deaths. Since November 2023, Houthi fighters have launched repeated attacks on Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, prompting Israeli retaliation on Houthi-held territory.

As the cycle of action and counteraction intensifies, observers warn that the Middle East could face further instability without renewed diplomatic efforts.
