Israel Advances Gaza City Offensive Amid Rising Famine Toll

A New Phase in Gaza City Assault

Israeli officials have vowed to press ahead with a sweeping offensive on Gaza City, where residents report relentless air and ground attacks. Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will "continue to act with full force to defeat Hamas, secure the release of all hostages, and end the war under Israel’s terms."

Earlier this week, Katz warned that Gaza City could face widespread destruction unless Hamas met Israel’s demands: the release of all hostages and permanent Israeli security control over the enclave. The IDF says its operations have expanded into the Jabaliya area in northern Gaza, "dismantling terrorist infrastructure above and below ground, eliminating militants, and strengthening operational control."

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

As the offensive intensifies, Gaza’s health authorities report at least eight starvation-related deaths in the past 24 hours, including a child—bringing the famine toll since March to 281, with 114 children among the victims. According to local health data, more than 62,000 people have been killed in Gaza due to air strikes and shootings since last October.

This unfolding humanitarian crisis has drawn growing international concern, highlighting the urgent need for safe corridors and humanitarian aid to reach civilians caught in the crossfire.
