In the heart of Abu Dhabi, the cultural exchange event “Echoes of Peace” brought together media leaders, diplomats, and thinkers to reflect on history and chart a collaborative path forward. Hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chinese Embassy in the UAE, the gathering underscored the power of storytelling, art, and innovation in bridging cultures.
Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, opened the proceedings via video message. Highlighting the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, he reminded the audience that “History is the best textbook. Only by remembering history can we stand firm in safeguarding peace, defending fairness and justice, and creating a better future.”
Building on this theme, Shen outlined CMG’s vision to deepen cooperation with international partners. By integrating intellectual depth, artistic expression, and cutting-edge technology, CMG aims to create a global media platform for news reporting, information exchange, and resource sharing.
Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Zhang Yiming echoed these sentiments, calling for a stronger United Nations–centered system. “In the face of unilateral bullying and selective rule-setting, all nations must uphold the authority of the UN and advance global governance in a more just and equitable direction,” he said. Zhang also noted that this year marks the “Year of China” within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and expressed China’s readiness to translate multilateralism into concrete actions alongside SCO partners like the UAE.
Opinions from regional experts added depth to the dialogue. Mohamed Firas Alnaeb, president of the Strategia Center for Studies in Dubai, praised the long-standing partnership: “China and the UAE have been builders of world peace since the end of World War II. They are defenders of the international order, committed to promoting peace, stability, and common development worldwide.”
To bring themes of peace to life, the event screened a selection of Chinese films and documentaries produced by CMG and CGTN. From wartime narratives to modern stories of resilience, each piece highlighted our collective responsibility to protect peace and foster mutual understanding.
As global challenges grow more complex, “Echoes of Peace” served as a timely reminder that cultural diplomacy and media collaboration can play a vital role in uniting diverse audiences around shared values. For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, these conversations offer fresh perspectives on how to build a community with a shared future.
