In Kabul’s diplomatic quarter on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani to strengthen bilateral ties and chart a path for Afghanistan’s development and regional security.
Wang Yi, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s long-standing friendly policy toward Afghanistan. He reaffirmed China’s respect for Afghanistan’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its unique national conditions and religious traditions.
“In Afghanistan’s pursuit of development and revitalization, China stands as a reliable partner and friend,” Wang said. He pledged support for Afghanistan’s economic priorities, voiced opposition to unreasonable pressure and asset freezes, and backed an early resumption of bilateral patrols in the Wakhan Corridor to maintain border peace.
The Chinese minister also urged Afghanistan to take firm action against the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and other terror groups to safeguard cooperation and regional security.
Sirajuddin Haqqani expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support for Afghanistan’s development and integration into the international community. He affirmed that Afghanistan will never allow its territory to be used in ways that undermine China’s security and is eager to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
