Zelenskyy to Meet Trump in Washington After US-Russia Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday that he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. on Monday, following this week’s U.S.-Russia summit in Geneva.

The summit between Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin wrapped up without an agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine, leaving Zelenskyy eager to press for concrete steps toward ending the conflict.

In a 90-minute phone call on Saturday, Trump briefed Zelenskyy on the key points of his discussion with Putin. Zelenskyy emphasized that the United States’ strength will play a pivotal role in shaping the conflict’s trajectory.

Grateful for Trump’s invitation, Zelenskyy plans to use the meeting to explore “all the details of ending the killing and the war.”

He also backed Trump’s proposal for a trilateral summit, calling the format “highly appropriate” for discussing key issues at the level of national leaders.

After their one-on-one exchange, the two leaders spent the next 90 minutes joined by European partners over the phone. Zelenskyy noted that coordination with all partners remains a top priority as they pursue a lasting peace.
