CGTN America Premieres Dead to Rights in LA, Revisiting the Nanjing Massacre

In a powerful gathering at a Los Angeles theatre, CGTN America co-hosted the North American premiere of the film Dead to Rights, an unflinching portrait of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. Filmmakers, cultural figures, and historians joined the event to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, hoping to spark reflection and dialogue on one of WWII’s darkest chapters.

Dead to Rights first reached audiences in Australia and New Zealand on August 7. Starting August 15, it will hit over 250 cinemas across the United States, with more than 20,000 screenings scheduled. The film’s reach extends far beyond North America, with planned showings in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and other markets.

As young global citizens and film lovers seek stories that connect past and present, Dead to Rights offers a lens on history that resonates across cultures. By combining on-the-ground accounts with cinematic storytelling, the film invites audiences to engage with memory, resilience, and the lessons of history — themes that continue to shape today’s conversations on human rights and global solidarity.

For businesses, tech enthusiasts, and changemakers, the event underscores the growing role of media collaborations in promoting cultural exchange and historical awareness. And for travellers and digital nomads, the film’s global rollout opens new windows into cross-border dialogue, reminding us how shared experiences can bridge distances and foster deeper understanding.
