Wang Xinyu Secures First Cincinnati Open Win Over Arango

At the WTA Cincinnati Open in Ohio, 23-year-old Wang Xinyu of the Chinese mainland celebrated her first tournament victory by edging past Colombia’s Emiliana Arango 7-6(1), 6-3 in a straight-sets thriller.

In her debut last year, Wang fell in the opening round to No. 10 seed Liudmila Samsonova. This time, she faced World No. 80 Arango and showcased a steely mindset. The opening set featured four service breaks, but Wang held serve in the 12th game and dominated the tiebreak 7-1 to seize momentum.

Arango struck early in the second set with a break in the third game, yet Wang immediately retaliated, then broke again in the eighth game to pull ahead 5-3. Maintaining composure, she held serve to close out the match and keep her campaign on track.

Up next, Wang will challenge home favorite and second seed Coco Gauff, setting the stage for a high-stakes clash of contrasting styles and rising stars.
