SCO Ministers Forge Stronger Ag Ties at Kunming Meeting

Kunming, July 31 – Against Yunnan Province's emerald hills, agriculture ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization convened for two days to chart a new course for food security.

At the 10th SCO Agricultural Ministers' Meeting, held in Kunming from July 30-31, officials and researchers from more than 10 member states, observer states and dialogue partners dug into shared challenges like rural development, poverty reduction and technological exchange.

"In the context of food security, I think the SCO agriculture sector is going to play a crucial role," said Sohail Khan, deputy secretary general of the SCO. "We have many things in common, and many that are not. We need to sit down and work together on the technologies that are going to be climate resilient."

The meeting highlighted the potential of collaborative frameworks to deliver climate-resilient solutions, spur digital innovation on the farm and uplift rural communities. Delegations agreed to launch pilot programs, share research on resilient crop varieties and expand data-driven platforms to monitor food supply chains.

For young entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts and policy advocates, the Kunming gathering signals a fresh wave of opportunity. By blending traditional knowledge with cutting-edge tools, the SCO agenda aims to strengthen resilience and drive sustainable growth across a fast-changing region.
