Trump Sets 10-Day Deadline for Russia on Ukraine Crisis

U.S. President Donald Trump has tightened the screws on Russia, giving Moscow just 10 days to show meaningful progress toward ending the Ukraine crisis or face new tariffs and other measures. This deadline shortens the initial 50-day window announced last month, reflecting rising frustration in Washington.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said he is not worried about the potential oil market impact because President Vladimir Putin seems intent on keeping the conflict alive. Trump vowed to offset any price shocks by boosting domestic oil production, pointing to U.S. output at a record 12 million barrels per day.

The new ultimatum comes amid Trump’s ongoing efforts to broker peace in other global hotspots, including Gaza. After campaigning on a promise to end Russia’s conflict in Ukraine in a day, the president’s readiness to move from warnings to action suggests a shift toward concrete sanctions.

In response, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev took to X, accusing Trump of playing a game of ultimatums that could spark a wider war. Medvedev wrote: ‘Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with Trump’s own country.’

With the clock ticking, all eyes are on Moscow. If no diplomatic breakthrough emerges by day 11, markets, policymakers and global citizens will be watching closely to see how far Washington is prepared to go.
