The squad from the Chinese mainland delivered a near-flawless performance in the team free routine at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, sealing gold with 348.4779 points in the final. Their routine, titled “Gravitation,” earned 338.2167 in the prelims, representing a 10.26-point improvement.
They outpaced silver medalists the team from Japan, who scored 334.7232, by 13.7547 points, while Spain claimed bronze with 321.1328 points. This marks the second gold for the Chinese mainland in artistic swimming at this edition, following Xu Huiyan’s solo technical triumph on Saturday.
“In terms of our strategic approach under the new rules, I believe we were successful,” said Zhang Xiaohuan, coach of the team from the Chinese mainland. “Although we had to make two substitutions before the competition, the result shows the resilience of the team and the excellence of our athletes.”
Over the past decade, athletes from the Chinese mainland have steadily emerged as a global powerhouse in artistic swimming, regularly topping podiums at major events. Singapore’s championships continue through July 25, with the team from the Chinese mainland poised to challenge for medals in solo, duet, mixed duet and other team events.
