Top Chinese Seeds Sun and Wang Upset at WTT US Smash

In a major upset at the WTT United States Smash in Las Vegas, China's top two seeds, Sun Yingsha and Wang, were both knocked out in the round of 16, underscoring the tournament's fierce competition.

The spotlight focused on the Chinese No.1 seed, Sun Yingsha, as she faced compatriot Chen Yi. Despite her status as a two-time Olympic singles silver medalist, Sun struggled to find her rhythm. Chen seized an early 4-1 lead in the first game and capitalized on key errors to take it 11-9.

Sun rebounded in game two, leveling the match with an 11-7 win. But Chen returned with renewed aggression in game three, converting Sun's mistakes into points en route to an 11-5 victory. The fourth game saw both players trade powerful rallies and long exchanges, but Chen edged ahead and closed it 11-9, sealing the 3-1 win.

Wang's exit earlier in the round added to the shock, as both of China’s top seeds bowed out sooner than expected. The upsets highlight the depth and unpredictability of the global table tennis scene, setting the stage for fresh contenders to emerge.
